Sixth Form Sees Parliamentary System in Action
On Friday 28th April, 50 students from Years 12 and 13 visited the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court.
For some it was an opportunity to put their knowledge of the UK parliamentary system into context from their study of Politics A-Level, and for others an introduction to the way the UK Government works.
Students went on a tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords chambers before putting their knowledge into practice in a workshop where they role-played the stages of a bill passing into law. We heard very passionate arguments on both sides of the argument regarding the death penalty with Myles (Year 13) and Mohamed (Year 12) attempting to keep 'order'!
In order to see all three branches of the government, students then crossed Parliament Square to sit in the seats of the Supreme Court Justices in the UK Supreme Court to learn more about how the UK constitution is upheld. The students' behaviour was exemplary and their questions to the tour guides extremely insightful.
