Transition to Year 7

Welcome to the Harris Academy Battersea ('HABS') Community!

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted you have accepted a place for your child at Harris Academy Battersea. Our school vision is to ‘develop aspirational young people that thrive in a changing world’ and this page explains three ways we welcome your child to our school and introduce this vision.

For all queries and communications, please feel free to contact us at admissions@harrisbattersea.org.uk.

We look forward to working with you!

Our Transition Handbook

In order to help you prepare for your child's start to Year 7 in September 2024, we have prepared a Transition Handbook for you. You can find this here or by clicking the picture below.

Transition Handbook cover image

The handbook includes:

  1. Letter from the Head of Academy
  2. What is HABS like?
  3. Will your child receive a fantastic education?
  4. Who are our team?
  5. What will your child need before they start with us?
  6. How will we keep in touch with you from now on?
  7. What else do you need to do to get ready for September?

We look forward to publishing more information to you as the year goes on, but the Transition Handbook is all about getting you started!

Key Transition Events this year

There will be a number of events and opportunities for you to visit us at the Academy. You can find out about some of these below:

Transition Meet & Greets

Over the coming months we are hosting two morning and two evening transition events. These are for families who might want extra help and support in their transition to secondary school, for example if you need help with making a Free School Meals application or would like support ordering school uniform and equipment.  Ms Graham and the team will be available at each of these events, and you can let us know you’d like to attend by emailing us at admissions@harrisbattersea.org.uk

The Meet & Greet events are taking place on:

  • Tuesday 16th April 09:00-10:00
  • Thursday 25th April 17:00-18:00
  • Wednesday 1st May 09:00-10:00
  • Monday 13th May 17:00-18:00

Transition interviews

In July, we’ll be inviting all families to join us for a short transition interview. During this interview our team will:

  • Find out more about your child and their time at school so far.
  • Go through the Home Academy Agreement which sets out the key rules and expectations for all children at the school.
  • Answer any questions you might have.
  • Collect any final or missing admissions forms to ensure that we have all the information we need to get your child started strongly in September.

Transition Days (for Year 6 students who will be joining us in September)

In July, we'll be inviting your child to join us for a full day of getting to know Harris Battersea ahead of starting in Year 7.

More information will follow in due course, and we're extremely excited to meet your child and for them to meet their new peers and hopefully some friends for life!
