Sailing Through History: Year 10 Tackles the Spanish Armada!
On Tuesday, 60 historians from Year 10 visited the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to gain a deeper understanding of Elizabethan history and the Spanish Armada. Students took part in object handling workshops, had a chance to peruse galleries and exhibitions and read authentic Tudor manuscripts (some said to be authored by Elizabeth herself). The workshops and lectures attended enabled students to enhance their subject knowledge and analysis skills, as well as empathise with the human cost at hand by learning about the lives of Tudor sailors, seamen and spies.
Teachers commented that behaviour was excellent all round, both at the museum and our on our voyage to Greenwich. Students enjoyed the scenic grounds, were enthusiastic and inquisitive during their interactions with museum staff and came back to school ready to show off their knowledge in History.
A great time was had, and museum staff were very impressed with students, offering to have the school back again in the future.
