Year 12 Careers and Skills Trip to Octopus Energy
Twenty-three Year 12 students, who have been taking part in careers and skills workshops every Thursday afternoon for two terms, went to the Octopus Energy London Head Office recently.
After journeying on London buses and a short walk to the offices near Oxford Street, it was fantastic to see the students being inspired and developing their knowledge of the STEM careers sector.
First, they listened to four speakers about their work within Octopus Energy and their career paths. Then they engaged with group tasks to learn more about specific job roles within the energy and STEM careers sector.
After a brief snack and refreshment break, the students then toured the offices and met staff within the different teams. They asked many mature questions and were very interested in the brokerage team's work. Finally, students had a Q&A session where they received an awards ceremony and goodie bags!
Octopus Energy staff said that Harris Academy Battersea was “the best school they’ve ever worked with”! The Year 12 students came away with increased knowledge of the STEM sector, improved communication skills, and even a multitude of free items like octopus soft toys. Furthermore, it opened up potential summer school internships and apprenticeships in the future with the company.
