Trip to University College London
Year 13 biologists spent the day in the labs in University College London (UCL) and looked at home. Donning lab coats and goggles they spent the day testing different foods for the presence of genetically modified DNA. DNA was successfully extracted, amplified by PCR and run through gel electrophoresis (as complicated as it sounds) to yield results. The PHD students running the sessions were impressed by HABS students who completed all tasks with ease - Riley Sanders even showing up some of the students with her impressive loading of wells in the electrophoresis plates - for anyone reading this with experience you will appreciate how tricky a technique this is! A great day for our students. Special shout out to Arash Tavakoli who even managed to fit in an online University interview whilst we were on the trip!
