Former Mayor Of Wandsworth Council visit Harris Academy Battersea
Harris Academy Battersea had the pleasure of welcoming Juliana Annan, the former mayor and the current local councillor for Battersea Park, to the school. This visit presented an exciting opportunity to strengthen relationships with local leaders and explore ways to collaborate on community-building efforts.
Councillor Annan was given a tour of the school, during which she met several students and staff members. Following the tour, she participated in a lively discussion with students who were eager to share their thoughts and concerns about the local community. The students raised several key issues affecting their neighbourhood, ranging from safety and local amenities to broader concerns such as environmental well-being and youth engagement in positive activities. They also inquired about the council's initiatives and the kinds of support available to them and their families.
The students’ engagement and passion for fostering a positive and supportive community were truly inspiring. Their questions demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to contribute meaningfully to improving their surroundings. Councillor Annan was impressed by their enthusiasm and assured them that the council is committed to working closely with schools and young people to address the issues they face.
This visit marked the beginning of what is hoped to be an ongoing partnership between Harris Academy Battersea and the local council, with a focus on enhancing the well-being of students and families. Both the school and Councillor Annan are looking forward to future collaborations that will empower students and help build a more inclusive and thriving community.
