Stepping Back in Time at Battersea Arts Centre
Fifteen of our most promising Year 9 historians went to Battersea Arts Centre (pictured) recently to take part in an interactive heritage trail that saw them explore the hidden corners of the centre and learn about the people, stories and values that have shaped its 125-year history.
Accompanied by Ms Covington and Mr Tibber, the students had the pleasure of discovering 13 unique installations which celebrate the common values held by generations of extraordinary people in Battersea’s history, by following their footsteps though the old town hall.
They discovered the stories of people with important roles in the past of this building and the borough - from political activists such as Charlotte Despard (pictured below) and John Archer, to the entrepreneur and trailblazer Hilda Hewlett (pictured bottom of page), right through to contemporary heroes of Battersea Arts Centre’s story in the 21st century.
The heritage trails introduced the students to the people whose values have become instilled into the fabric of the old town hall and who form the beating heart of our community – and whose stories have become our stories.
The students were a credit to the school; fully engaged and inspired by the activities.
