HABS Art Portfolio - Equality, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQIA+
As part of their series of 'Weekly Wellbeing Challenges', Harris Academy Battersea has this month been looking at equality in light of the #BLM events and LGBTQIA+ Pride, and also at safety during the pandemic.
For one of their challenges, staff and students collaborated to submit artwork inspired by one or more of these themes. So far there have been over 70 submissions for this project, with more art being added every week.

Black Lives Matter
By Ms Cambridge
Black lives matter
This movement needs to be heard.
We’re not saying no one else matters
The lines have become blurred.
Fighting for equality
Based on the colour of our skin.
Rosa Parks sat
So that the racists wouldn’t win.
We invite you all out
Bend down and take the knee.
Still fighting years later
Mandela tried to set us free.
‘I have a dream’ said King
‘Children black & white could hold hands’.
We need to come together
We need to take a stand.
We’ve finally had enough
Just watch as we protest.
The George Floyd incident
Shows how black people are still oppressed.
Imagine how it feels
Singled out because you’re black.
Malcolm X demanded separation
So white people couldn’t attack.
Now we congregate
Black and white side by side.
It’s time to make a change
Leave racism with no where left to hide.
Join hands with a different race,
Show our solidarity.
All lives can’t matter, until black lives matter!
Stand up and be counted, let’s break out of this disparity.
