Aspiring Writer Violet-May Is A Published Author

Earlier this year, Violet-May, Year 12, entered a writing competition run by the 'Academy of Real Assets', an initiative designed to increase engagement amongst schools with the real estate and asset management industry.

The competition asked students from across the UK to write a short story or essay based on the title 'The Town of the Future Will...', with the top entries winning the chance to be published in a book.

Violet-May's story, imagining a fantastical future inspired by the movements of the sun and moon, wowed the judges and won her a place in the final publication.

The book launch event was held at Schroders in the City of London on the 15th July, and was an impressive occasion. Leaders from across the asset management and real estate industry were present to congratulate the young writers, and award the competition winners with their certificates and a copy of the published book.

Violet-May was asked a few minutes before the awards ceremony if she would be happy to say a few words in front of the gathered crowd, and she confidently took up the challenge.

“During the event, I felt a mixture of emotions as this was a great experience for me," said Violet-May. "I felt very  happy because I finally had my story published, for the first time, after waiting for nearly a year, which has given me the confidence to know that people are noticing my work.

"Now, it has inspired me to continue writing my own stories and to read, which are two things that I am passionate about. Also, I was able to meet other people who were also part of the book and got to speak in front of a group of people, which really challenged my stage fright, but I am glad that I did it. I was really grateful for this opportunity."

Copies of the book will be sent to schools across the country, and you can read Violet-May’s story in the digital version here.
