Black History Month Events - Report & Pictures
Black History Month at HABS has been a huge success. Students were educated, celebrated and empowered through author visits, poetry workshops, career insight assemblies and craft opportunities.
Visits, workshops and talks with Christopher Syrus, Ricky Baxter, Dinah Orji and Dede Eyesan were just some of the highlights of a fantastic month of celebration.
Thanks so much to all of the wonderful visitors who joined us at HABS, and a massive thank you and well done to all the wonderful students who got involved throughout October 2023.

Masterclass with author Dinah Orji
Year 7 students had the privilege of engaging in a online masterclass with author Dinah Orji. Orji is the author of the historical fiction novel Children of the Benin Kingdom, and an accountant and film industry professional currently with ITV.
She graciously answered the questions of our enthusiastic students concerning the inspirations behind her novel, career progression as a writer, writing and publishing process and how she used her writing as a way to explore and connect with her identity.
The students were encouraged by her kind advice concerning facing adversity and being resilient. Orji noted: "Everyone wants to be someone else...you must celebrate your identity...believe that what you have to offer is good enough".
