Year 10 Students Explore Future Careers and Skills
HABS had an exciting week filled with opportunities for Year 10 students to gain valuable insights into the world of careers and education. From hearing about the innovative work of industry leaders to participating in hands-on workshops, students were able to explore their next steps and develop skills that will serve them well in the future.
A Conversation with Rick Haythornthwaite
One of the highlights of the week was the visit from Rick Haythornthwaite, the Chairperson of NatWest Group. Year 10 students were treated to a fascinating talk about Rick’s career journey and the essential lessons he has learned along the way. Rick shared insights into how NatWest Group is using cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve its operations. He also highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding clients' assets and information in today's rapidly changing digital world. Students were inspired by Rick’s story and the potential of tech-driven innovation in the financial sector.
Carousel of Next Step Workshops
The following afternoon, Year 10 students attended a series of engaging workshops designed to help them explore various career paths and develop essential skills for their future. The carousel of sessions included a code-breaking workshop, a study skills session, an introduction to journalism, and discussions on apprenticeships and post-16 options. These workshops were led by several educational providers, including ADA College, South Thames College, and Central City College Group. Students left the afternoon feeling more informed about their next steps and eager to continue learning about the many possibilities ahead.
Practice Interviews: Gearing Up for Success
In addition to the workshops, HABS also hosted practice interviews for Year 10 students, offering them the chance to experience a real-world job interview. Students were asked to prepare for an interview based on a specific job description of their choice. Over the course of the day, students had 10-minute interviews with professionals from various fields, receiving constructive feedback on their performance. Many students were impressed by their own progress and excited for the chance to continue honing their interview skills in the future.
Overall, it was a week of learning, growth, and inspiration for Year 10 students at HABS. With guidance from industry leaders and experts, students are now better equipped to make informed decisions about their education and career paths as they prepare for the future.
